Love Apples in Winter--

an essay accepted for an anthology.  Publication pending.

Excerpt:

In the early morning hours of a January day, pull out two cans of tomatoes and open.  Pour into a crock pot.  Add a medium-sized, browned, beef roast, a frozen bag of corn, some canned green beans, two cloves of garlic finely chopped, two bay leaves, carrots, potatoes and cabbage.  Salt and pepper to taste. Cook on low all day. Taste test by four.  Eat the perfect food for dinner; those well preserved ‘love apples’ cooked into a splendid stew, even in if it is in the dark of a deeply, cold winter day.

Midwifery--

(short story) placed #5 (of 8,000) in the 6th Annual Writer’s Digest Short Short Story Contest as noted in June, 2006 hardcopy of Writer’s Digest.

Excerpt:

My father wasn’t the only one dying that summer.  A seven year-old neighbor girl was playing hide-and-seek with her brother.  She hid in the trunk of her parents’ Oldsmobile and locked herself inside.  She won.  No one found her for six hours.

Midwifery--

(stage play based on the short story above) placed as a finalist in the 2008 Writer's Digest contest for stage plays.

The Case Against Suicide--

(stage play) placed as a finalist in the John C. Gardner Two Minute Play Contest at Wilkes University, May, 2007.
